Evidence Based Birth® Services for Professionals
Evidence Based Birth® is committed to raising the quality of childbirth care globally, by putting accurate, evidence based research into the hands of families and communities, so they can make informed, empowered choices. Cleveland Natural Birth is proud to offer Evidence Based Birth® services and seminars for both parents and birth professionals in Cleveland, Ohio.

Hello, my name is Alayna Spratley. I’m a childbirth educator, the owner of Cleveland Natural Birth, and a local Evidence Based Birth® Instructor.
An Evidence Based Birth® Instructor is a birth professional with advanced training, specifically in how to help families get evidence based care. I am thrilled to be one of only about 100 Evidence Based Birth® Instructors worldwide! I steadfastly believe that it is every person’s right to experience a positive, respectful, and safe pregnancy and birth. Unfortunately, even though evidence based care is the gold standard in medicine, it is not the norm with maternity care. The reality is, for most women giving birth in the United States, they receive care rooted in routine, not in best practice, I’m actively working to change this and proud to be joining forces with passionate professionals and parents around the globe, to disrupt the status quo and build a better birth experience for all! So, if you, too, want to be equipped with the latest evidence to take to help empower your clients with the skills to take ownership over their births, then keep reading to find out what I can offer you.
Evidence Based Birth® Workshops for Birth Professionals
Welcome Maternity Care Professionals! Are you a midwife, labor and delivery nurse, childbirth educator, doula, or a holistic wellness practitioner looking for rewarding and empowering continuing education? As an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, I facilitate a variety of exceptional seminars covering pertinent maternity care topics including, how to help your clients access evidence based maternity care, an outstanding seminar series featuring birth “hot topics”, a brand new Comfort Measures for L&D Nurses workshop, and the Savvy Birth Pro Workshop. All workshops offer professional contact hours.

The Evidence Based Birth® Seminar Series

I am thrilled to present an outstanding series of three seminars that were thoughtfully developed by Evidence Based Birth® and are now available to Cleveland area birth professionals! Read on to learn more.
At each of these three, 1.5-hour seminar sessions, we will cover several hot topics relevant to the birth field. You will get a wonderful opportunity to network with other dedicated maternity care professionals in the Cleveland/Akron area, and attendees will earn nursing contact hours for each seminar, which can be applied to most childbirth educator and doula certifications, and well as the Certified Professional Midwife credential. We also offer 1.5 contact hours from the American College of Nurse Midwives! Topics for 2019, include:
- Due Dates with Advanced Maternal Age
- Newborn Procedures During the Golden Hour
- Normalizing Home Birth Transfers
Did you know that the number one reason for induction is “post-dates?” In this Evidence Based Birth® seminar, packed with facts, you will learn the evidence on induction for reaching the due date and for going past 41- 42 weeks. We’ll also cover a bit about “advanced maternal age,” and discuss the actual numbers of increase in stillbirth with older age.

What is the evidence on the safety of Vitamin K? Does delayed cord clamping lead to jaundice? How can we help families who give birth by Cesarean get skin to skin in the operating room? In this seminar, we will take a look at the research on newborn procedures for term infants during the “golden hour.” We will cover the history and research on interventions that happen during the first hour of life—including which procedures are the “best practices,” and which procedures can be safely delayed or declined!
This workshop will challenge you to address your fears and concerns about transfers from planned home births into the hospital. What guidelines can hospital staff follow when accepting a home birth transfer? What can home birth providers do to ease the transfer? What are the basic safety statistics of home birth, and what is needed to make home birth safer?

Comfort Measures Workshop for L&D Nurses
Are you an Labor and Delivery Nurse who wants to advance your skillset to help keep patients comfortable and calm during labor?
Evidence Based Birth® designed this 3-hour workshop specifically for L&D nurses who are looking to grow their labor support knowledge-base and skills. By attending Comfort Measures for L&D Nurses, you will not only get hands-on practice with comfort measures techniques, but you will also learn how to overcome barriers to providing exceptional comfort measures on your unit! All nurses who register at the Professional level or higher will earn 3 nursing contact hours, and those who register as a Super User will receive a Comfort Measures Toolkit to take back to your unit to teach your colleagues.

Savvy Birth Pro Workshop

The Savvy Birth Pro Workshop, worth 3 nursing contact hours, was developed by Evidence Based Birth® to give birth professionals the skills they need to make a genuine difference, and to help clients attain the best opportunity of receiving evidence based care during pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.
The 3-hour Savvy Birth Pro Workshop will succeed in preparing you to help your clients assert their right to evidence based care in a respectful way that builds bridges, not walls. We believe the inspirational knowledge you will gain from this workshop will have a positive ripple effect that extends to your clients, the professionals you work with, and your community!
